Ok, I’m going to admit off the bat I didn’t get to watch what was probably the most score-laden game of the year, so this recap is going to be a) sparse and b) mostly useless. I’m sorry. Feel free to blame the loss on my lack of attention. But also, I had a really great reason to not watch it – I went for dinner with a friend I hadn’t seen in MONTHS. And we got RAMEN. Not like, the kind of ramen you make out of a packet, but the “everything good in a bowl of long-simmered broth with fresh noodles and this grilled pork thing and mushrooms and spicy stuff.”
LOOK, LOOK AT THIS.
Anyway, here’s what info you don’t have already from other recaps or like, actually watching the game.
Given that this was a 7-4 blowout, I expected this chart (5v5, score adjusted) to look a lot worse. Clearly, Jamie Benn was on it last night, especially since I received several people just going ‘JAMIE BENN!!!’ in my mentions.
Also, in the vaunted Klingberg vs Karlsson match up Corsi ended up….dead even. So I guess we’ll give this round to Karlsson since his team won, but Klingberg’s still leading him in points.
Spezza’s line usually isn’t the one getting eaten in possession, but I guess that’s a thing that happened.
Remember way back at our last loss to the Maple Leafs when I said the difference was these High Danger shots? Well, look at this 5v5 chart of Ottawa’s shots. HMMMMMMM Coincidence?
(No. No it is not. It’s a pattern that the Stars have and that teams are starting to exploit.)
Per Mike Heika’s post game quotes, the players (and Lindy) want to focus more on turnovers, but if they’re not doing something about decreasing these High Danger shots, games like this (and like against the Leafs) will keep happening.
Also it appears Lehtonen was hurt during the game. Ruff declined to say much, and hopefully we should know more today.
BUT WHO CARES ABOUT LOSING THAT GAME ANYWAY LOOK AT THIS SUAVE MOFO ON TOP OF THE POINTS RACE.
(Blingees are for WINS)
Goals on Goals
And another look at that same goal because it’s so good.
THAT’S IT GO HOME, WE’RE DONE HERE.
